This is where the pressure switch opens a set of electrical contacts to stop the pump. If you are a homeowner, whether you have your pressure switch set at 30/50 or 40/60 is a matter of personal preference.
If the pump is starting and stopping at too low a pressure, turn the larger nut clockwise.
How to adjust water pressure on a pumptrol. Designed for the control of electrically driven water pumps. I lose water after it has been running for for a while, then it kicks back on after a few minutes when the well pump starts. If the water pump short cycle is very short, clicking on and off, there could be a shortage of air in the water tank, or there could be a problem with the pump control pressure switch itself, or even a dirty and clogged water.
At water pump pressure switch repairs. Looking at the pressure, locate the large spring in the center. Adjust the big spring nut #1.
When setting the pressure switch, adjust the switching point on rising pressure first and then the switching point on falling pressure. Open a water faucet and watch the pressure gauge. Turn the nut on top of the large spring to raise the cut in and cut off pressures.
If your water pump is clicking on and off too often or quite rapidly see short cycling. As your customer uses water, the pressure in the storage tank falls. Diagnosing water pump short cycling on and off:
I think this is because the pumptrol switch is not kicking on when the pressure tank empties and then waits for the pressure to lower to its activation point. Position the jaws of the wrench over the top nut of the adjustment screw. When the desired pressure is reached, the pump must be stopped.
The common settings are either 30/50 or 40/60. Turn the screw in a clockwise direction to increase the water pressure and a counterclockwise direction to decrease water pressure. Using this nut will maintain about a twenty pound differential between the cut in and cut off points.
How to adjust water pump pressure: Water is pumped into a storage tank to compress an air bladder that exerts pressure on the water in the home. Type f pressure switch selection and features.
The small nut will adjust only the cut off pressure. For example, at 40/60 the pump will turn on when system pressure reaches 40 psi (pounds per square inch) and turn off when system pressure reaches 60 psi. Turn it clockwise to move pressure points up, counterclockwise to move pressures down.
Type f—pumptrol™ water pump pressure switches. Class 9013 / refer to catalog 9034ct9701. The detailed, step by step procedure for inspecting and adjusting the water pressure control switch is discussed in detail at water pump pressure control adjustment.
Open a water faucet to test the pressure. This is easy to figure out since if you set it too high the pump will just keep running. I have a well pump with a tank and a square d pumptrol switch.
Make the adjustment one or two full revolutions at a time. Models ftg and fhg have only one adjustment spring. Under a normally set pressure switch, the pump should come on at 30 psi and shut off at 50 psi.
This video details how the customer is able to adjust their pumptrol pressure switch suitable for their application. Turn the spring to adjust the square d well pressure switch. Alternatively you may want to see one of these water pressure or pump diagnostic procedures:
